Tips to Promote Good Reading Habits

READ, READ, READ TO YOUR CHILD!!!!!
ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILD TO "READ"TO YOU-

This may be accomplished by letting your child tell the story to you in his/her own words, using the illustrations as a guide.

ASK QUESTIONS AS YOU READ TOGETHER-
What will the story be about? What will happen next? Enforce understanding of what you read as you go.

FOSTER GOOD READING MANNERS-
Urge your child to listen while books are being read.

ALLOW YOUR CHILD TO CHOOSE-
Deciding what books to read should be a responsibility enjoyed by the child, even if it means reading the same book over and over until you both have it memorized.

HELP RELATE BOOKS TO REAL LIFE-
Draw comparisons between what you read about and your child's daily activities.
